Prof. Dr. Muhamet Mustafa, member of the Assembly of Kosovo, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Economic Development, Infrastructure, Trade and Industry, chairman of of the Academic Council of Riinvest College and Mr. Bardhyl Meta the Executive Director of Riinvest Institute visited Epoka University on November 16, 2015 and discussed with the students in an Open Forum organized by the Young Economist Network Club. He was invited to present and provide further information about the current economic and political development in Kosovo.
At the beginning of the discussion with the students of Epoka University, Prof. Dr Muhamet talked about the general economic view of Kosovo and the political stability of this country. He stressed the fact that Kosovo is transformed from a centrally planned economy to a more market-based economy. The nation has opened its borders to trade and investment. There are some macroeconomic imbalances such as unemployment and poverty. Considering this high rate of unemployment all politicians, businessmen, and the government should not be in peace. For a developing country we should have more and more investments.
During the second part of his discussion Prof. Dr Muhamet mentioned the co-operation issue between Kosovo and Albania. He said that they are two countries but one nature. Economic relations between the two countries have been strengthened. Economic cooperation might be boosted only through common policies that will promote sustainable economic growth in both sides of the border. In this respect, energy is a crucial area for the further enhancement of trade volume and interaction between the economies of Kosovo and Albania.
At the end of the Open Forum, students addressed to Professor Mustafa questions related to the economic issues of Kosovo, such as how the country of Kosovo is nowadays in comparison with expectations that they had, etc.
