Doctorate (PhD) in Economics: Economics profile
The aim of the PhD program in Economics at Epoka University is designed to ensure that students acquire a thorough knowledge of economic theory, econometric and computational methods as well as the structure of modern economies, before beginning their own research under faculty supervision. The Ph.D. degree is awarded in recognition of the recipient's qualifications as a general economist and of the ability to make scholarly contributions in fields of specialization. The program gives equal emphasis to these two goals with formal courses and examinations, seminars, workshops, papers, and the dissertation. The Department also offers students the option to satisfy one of the minor field requirements through a program of supervised research. Students are also encouraged to take part in workshops in their fields of primary interest.
In the first year, there is a focus on training in research methods and stage of theoretical deepening.
Throughout the second year of the program, beside starting preparing the dissertation, there will be PhD seminars and other events, allowing candidates to benefit from presentations covering a number of areas relevant to their work, to present their own work.
The essence of EPOKA University remains, however, the work with the PhD supervisor, mostly during the third year of PhD studies. Each candidate is assigned a principal supervisor. He or she will help develop the thesis project through discussion and the review of draft materials presented by the candidates. If it will be necessary there will be also a second supervisor who will supports the work of the candidate. Ordinarily, the second supervisor will offer an additional perspective to the candidate, although he or she will not be as involved in the on-going work as the first supervisor.
