On 4–5 September 2025, the second research seminar of the Erasmus+ project Leadership Capacities Development in Higher Education across Albania and Kosovo (LEADALKO) took place in Valletta, Malta, bringing together all consortium partners for two days of productive discussions and collaboration.
LEADALKO, co-funded by the European Union, aims to strengthen leadership capacities and modern governance in higher education institutions across Albania and Kosovo. The Malta seminar marked an important milestone in the project’s implementation, focusing on the design and development of the leadership programme.
During the event, partners presented the seven modules of the leadership programme, laying the foundation for the upcoming train-the-trainers workshops scheduled to be held in Priština, Kosovo, from 9–11 December 2025. These workshops will equip university staff with the tools and competencies needed to deliver high-quality leadership training within their institutions.
Another key point of discussion was the preparation of the programme’s pilot phase, set to be implemented in two cohorts in Kosovo and Albania between January and July 2026. Approximately 50 trainees will participate in this phase, gaining firsthand experience in leadership development and contributing to the building of a sustainable culture of strong academic leadership.
The seminar also addressed potential implementation challenges, while consortium members shared valuable insights and examples of European best practices to ensure the programme’s success.
By fostering collaboration and innovation, LEADALKO continues to pave the way for stronger institutions, empowered academic leaders, and long-term impact on the higher education systems of Albania and Kosovo.
