The Sustainability for Future (S4F) Tirana Meet-Up continued on 16 April with a symbolic journey through one of Tirana’s most remarkable urban transformations: the Pyramid of Tirana. Once a monument of another era, the Pyramid has been reimagined as one of Albania’s most vibrant centers for creativity, entrepreneurship, technology, and youth innovation. Its evolution from a closed historical structure into an open and dynamic innovation hub provided the ideal setting for the workshop “Building Sustainable Ecosystems for Entrepreneurship.”

Organized within the framework of the Sustainability for Future initiative, the workshop brought together international consortium partners, ecosystem stakeholders, and representatives from academia and innovation support organizations to explore how collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building can contribute to the further development of Albania’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The programme featured presentations highlighting experiences from different European startup ecosystems, with discussions on entrepreneurship education, incubation models, innovation support structures, and opportunities for connecting local ecosystems with international networks. These exchanges offered valuable insights and practical examples relevant to the Albanian context.

Following the presentation sessions, participants engaged in an interactive workshop dedicated to co-creating the startup ecosystem of Albania. Discussions focused on mapping key actors, identifying capacity-building needs, strengthening partnerships among universities, industry, government, and civil society, and exploring access to finance and funding opportunities for startups and innovation initiatives.

After the workshop, consortium members continued the day with a visit to the House of Leaves, one of Tirana’s most significant museums of memory, offering reflection on Albania’s past and its journey toward openness, democracy, and European integration.

The programme concluded with a site visit to Kazerma (Kazarma), a distinctive agritourism destination developed through the adaptive reuse of former military barracks. Once a soldiers’ building, the site has been thoughtfully transformed into a welcoming space that combines local gastronomy, hospitality, nature, and heritage. The visit offered participants another inspiring example of how Albania is reimagining historical spaces through entrepreneurship, sustainability, and innovative business models.

The day demonstrated how Tirana and Albania are increasingly positioning themselves as places where history, transformation, and innovation converge—creating fertile ground for the development of sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems for the future.
