The series of EU Open Lectures at the Center for European Studies, Epoka University proceeded today with the discussion on” Engaging Youth in Supporting and Protecting Human Rights: The Power of EU integration” held by Ms. Erida Skendaj, Executive Director at Albanian Helsinki Committee. Ms. Erida Skendaj graduated in 2006 with the title “Jurist” and in 2011 with the title “Master of Science” in Criminal Sciences from the Faculty of Law, University of Tirana. She is author and co-author in the preparation of a certain number of publications, research studies, reports and articles in legal journals in the field of human rights, justice and judiciary institutions, corruption, impunity, referendums etc.
The discussion was organized around four main points: the development EU legal framework, the evolution of EU adhesion criteria toward countries willing to join the union, opportunities, and challenges of EU integration processes and finally the importance of involving youth in promoting and enhancing human rights.
A part of the discussion focused on the reform of justice and different forms of corruption in society. The forum closed after a talk with students where they shared their questions and discussed opportunities for further engagement.
