An open lecture titled "Lens on Tomorrow: Earthquake Engineering, Science & Education for Resilience" was recently held at EPOKA University, featuring a presentation by Prof. Dr Radmila Salic Makreska.
The lecture was attended by second- and third-year civil engineering students. Prof. Dr Makreska discussed resilience from a broad viewpoint, highlighting the seismic risks and hazards relevant to both local and regional contexts. Her presentation also covered a general overview of the research projects her institution is involved in, as well as its modern research infrastructure.
Following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EPOKA University and IZIIS, Prof. Dr Makreska emphasised the new opportunities for collaboration. These include faculty and student exchanges, shared research projects, joint organisation of seminars and training programmes, and initiatives designed to enhance the cultural and academic connections between the two institutions.
This collaboration is already underway: Zabedin Neziri, a PhD candidate from IZIIS, is currently spending two months at EPOKA University working on his PhD thesis, "Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment for North Macedonia, as a Basis for Seismic Zonation According to Eurocode 8, 2nd Generation," under the supervision of Dr Anila Xhahysa.
