EPOKA University Hosts Opening Ceremony of the READ Project

EPOKA University proudly launched the READ Project, "Towards an Education for Circular Economy: Impact of CE Teaching Practices on Sustainability and Environmental Protection," on November 20, 2024. 

 

This transformative initiative is led by Dr. Vera Ndrecaj, a distinguished diaspora scholar and Senior Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University, along with resident scholars Prof. Assoc. Dr. Alba Kruja, Prof. Dr. Eglantina Hysa, Dr. Arjona Cela, and Dr. Fatbardha Morina. 

 

Supported by the Albanian - American Development Foundation (AADF), the project aims to integrate circular economy principles into education and promote collaboration among academia, industry, and government.

 

The event opened with remarks from Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş Rector and Faculty Dean Prof. Assoc. Dr. Alba Kruja of EPOKA University, who highlighted the university’s alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its dedication to sustainability.

 

The event also featured Dr. Vera Ndrecaj, a diaspora scholar and core member of the READ Project team. Her speech, “The Role of Circular Economy Education in Shaping a Sustainable Future,” emphasized how education is pivotal in shaping sustainability leaders and fostering global collaboration.

 

Keynote speaker Mr. Enrik Keco, Project Manager at AADF, presented “READ – Research Expertise from the Academic Diaspora,” highlighting the project's vision and objectives.

 

Special guest speakers included:

  • Dr. Diana Leka, Secretary General of the Albanian Investment Council, who discussed “Sustainability Policy and Practices” and the role of policy in fostering a sustainable economy.
  • Ms. Denisa Kasa, representative of RecycAl, who shared insights on “Research on Circular Business Development” and emphasized innovative approaches to sustainability in business.

 

A highlight of the ceremony was the interactive discussion involving students and professors, creating an engaging platform for dialogue on circular economy practices and sustainability challenges.

 

Over the next six months, the READ Project will focus on student training, innovative curriculum development, interdisciplinary workshops, and a comprehensive study on circular economy teaching practices in Albanian universities. The initiative aims to inspire students, empower businesses, and guide policymakers to adopt sustainable practices for a circular economy.
