Students of the Law Program at EPOKA University, including second-year students enrolled in the Human Rights course and fifth-year students, participated in a study visit held on 2 June 2026 at 14:00, at the institution of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination.
The session was attended and coordinated by the course lecturer, Dr. Alba Gerdeci, and the Head of the Department, Prof. Gentian Skara, who accompanied the students during the institutional visit.
The session provided an in-depth overview of the legal and institutional framework on protection from discrimination in Albania, with a particular focus on the mandate, competencies, and procedural mechanisms of the Commissioner. Officials from the institution presented key aspects of case handling, including complaint procedures, investigation standards, decision-making practices in discrimination-related cases, as well as the challenges faced in enforcing anti-discrimination legislation in practice.
The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, during which students raised issues related to access to justice, burden of proof in discrimination cases, and the effectiveness of existing remedies.
This exchange offered students the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with institutional practice, enhancing their exposure to practical dimensions of human rights protection.
