On October 5, the Department of Business Administration at EPOKA University organized “Advising with Impact: Tools for Supporting Student Success,” a workshop designed for the department’s Academic Advisors.
The workshop focused on strengthening academic advising as an important part of the student journey, moving beyond administrative support toward a more student-centered approach. Key topics included building rapport and trust with students, effective communication, active listening, personalized support, inclusive advisership, and the role of advising in student retention and academic success.
Participants also discussed common challenges faced by students, their communication styles and support needs, as well as the university resources and actors that can contribute to addressing them. Particular attention was given to the importance of collaboration among academic advisors, faculty, administrative offices, student representatives, and other university units.
A central outcome of the workshop was the mapping of the student advising process at EPOKA University, aimed at identifying the different actors involved, the types of support they provide, and opportunities for stronger coordination. The activity encouraged advisors to look at advising as a shared process and to explore more sustainable, student-centered ways of supporting students throughout their university experience.
Through this workshop, the Department of Business Administration reaffirmed the importance of effective academic advising in creating a supportive academic environment and helping students navigate their academic and personal development at EPOKA University.
