On 19 November 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring Cartoon Workshop led by Dr. Erkan Demirbas and moderated by Prof. Abdurrahman Isik. The session brought together colleagues from various disciplines to explore the use of analogy-based storytelling to simplify complex academic concepts.
The workshop featured creative approaches like explaining monetary policy with a battery-powered boomerang, illustrating standard deviation through quirky examples, and even using fairy tales to unpack advanced topics like Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and the 2007 financial crisis.
Participants engaged in hands-on activities, learning how to craft their own stories to make challenging topics more relatable. The session also introduced the exciting idea of establishing a Cartoon Creation Centre within our Faculty, an initiative that received enthusiastic support.
We are grateful to everyone who made this event such a success. Stay tuned for more innovative events!
