EPOKA University marked an important milestone today with a Handover Ceremony, officially transitioning leadership from outgoing Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztaş, to newly appointed Rector, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bilgin.
 

Held at the University’s Conference Hall, the ceremony brought together members of the Administrative Board, Academic and Administrative staff, students, and guests to honor the contributions of Prof. Dr. Öztaşand to welcome Prof. Dr. Bilgin as he assumes the role of Rector. The event represented both gratitude for dedicated service and a moment of renewal as the University prepares for its next chapter of growth and innovation.
 

In his farewell speech, Prof. Dr. Öztaş reflected on his four-year tenure, highlighting key achievements including strengthening international ties with foreign embassies, hosting major events with the Magna Charta Observatory to advance global academic values, and introducing a performance-based academic evaluation system that fostered a culture of merit and professional development. “Although my term as Rector has come to an end, I am not saying goodbye,” he said, noting that he will continue serving the University as a Professor in the Civil Engineering Department. He extended his full support and best wishes to Prof. Dr. Bilgin as the new Rector.

Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bilgin, who officially assumed the post on September 1, 2025, brings a distinguished academic and leadership background. A civil engineer by training, Prof. Dr. Bilgin holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Pamukkale University in Turkey and was awarded the “Prof. Dr.” title by the Polytechnic University of Tirana. He has held several leadership roles at EPOKA, including Head of the Department of Civil Engineering (2007–2010) and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Engineering (2014–2017). His expertise spans structural analysis and design, earthquake engineering, seismic damage assessment, and advanced repair and retrofit solutions, with numerous scientific publications and projects to his name.

In his address, Rector Bilgin expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and acknowledged the legacy of his predecessor. “This handover marks not only a change in leadership, but a moment of continuity, responsibility, and renewal,” he stated. Looking ahead to the start of the new academic year in October, he emphasized EPOKA's mission to advance teaching, research, and service to society: “The success of EPOKA University will not rest on one person, but on the collective will and dedication of its entire community.”
 

The ceremony also included expressions of appreciation from the University’s Administrative Board, the presentation of a commemorative plaque and flowers, and the symbolic handover of the Rector’s gown — a gesture signifying continuity, respect for tradition, and the passing of responsibility for guiding EPOKA University into the future.
 

Prof. Dr. ÖZTAŞ’s tenure from 2021 to 2025 is widely recognized for advancing the international profile of the University, enriching its academic offerings, and elevating its research and educational standards. We thank him for his invaluable service, as his leadership has laid a strong foundation for future growth.

With today’s ceremony, EPOKA University begins a new chapter under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hüseyin BİLGİN, reaffirming its dedication to research, educational excellence, and contribution to the community.
