On April 29th and 30th, the Department of Political Science and International Relations embarked on a poignant journey to explore Kosovo's rich history and its present challenges. This immersive study visit offered invaluable insights into the complexities of post-conflict reconstruction and the aspirations for a better future.

The visit commenced at the municipality of Pristina, where we had the honor of meeting with the Vice Mayor. Her visionary discussion illuminated the municipality's plans, particularly focusing on initiatives in education. It was inspiring to witness the dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders and scholars.

Our journey continued with a deeply enlightening session hosted by UNHCR Kosovo, facilitated by Derand Krasniqi. Through engaging dialogue and the profound experiences shared by esteemed colleagues Bujar Prebreza and Erleta Gjejlani, we gained a deeper understanding of the enduring impact of the refugee crisis during Kosovo's tumultuous past.

A highlight of our visit was the poignant experience at The Kosovo War Childhood Museum. The haunting exhibition, 'Once Upon a Time and Never Again,' offered a raw and emotive glimpse into the lives of children affected by conflict. Through their stories and preserved belongings, we were reminded of the human cost of war and the resilience of the human spirit.

The following day, we journeyed to the city of Mitrovica, where we engaged in insightful discussions with the mayors of both the North and South. Addressing diverse challenges, from inter-ethnic relations to city safety, our interactions provided invaluable perspectives on fostering cohesion and mutual respect in divided communities.

Our study visit culminated in a poignant visit to Prekaz, the birthplace of Adem Jashari, a revered figure in Kosovo's struggle for independence. Standing amidst the remnants of his family home, where generations bravely fought for freedom, we were reminded of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of self-determination.

This study visit served as a powerful reminder of Kosovo's resilience and the enduring quest for peace and prosperity. As scholars and global citizens, we are committed to learning from the past to shape a brighter future for all.
