On December 4, 2024, within the framework of the project of the Faculty of Law, University of Tirana, on the topic “Challenges of European integration and free competition in the context of membership in the European Union,” funded by the “UT-Research, Excellence and Innovation” program, a roundtable organized in three panels was held. Prof. Iva Zajmi led the activity, which was realized with the participation of representatives from the Competition Authority, academia, and the American Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Mimoza Kodhelaj, Director of Market Supervision at the Competition Authority, emphasized the importance of such activities in support of the mission of the Competition Authority to protect free and effective competition in the market. She highlighted the role of rules of conduct for enterprises, the responsibilities of relevant institutions and the challenges in investigating cases of anti-competitive behaviour.
Dr. Skara provided an overview of the role of the Albanian Competition Authority in the digital market. Dr Skara emphasised that even though Albania is a small country, the Albanian Competition Authority has played an important role in acknowledging the impact that new technology has on competition.
The meeting was closed by Dr. Fjoralba Caka, who, on behalf of the project team, thanked the students for their commitment and interest, as well as the guests from the relevant institutions for their valuable contribution. She noted the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in promoting and guaranteeing free competition, especially in the context of the integration processes into the European Union.
