On January 14, 2025, the Department of Law at EPOKA University had the privilege of hosting Professor Gentian Zyberi, a renowned expert in international law and human rights, for a guest lecture on the latest developments in international criminal law and the administration of international criminal justice. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for students, particularly those in their fifth year of Law studies, to gain insights from one of the field's foremost authorities.
Professor Zyberi currently serves as the Head of the Department at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights at the University of Oslo (2025–2027). He is also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and a member of the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency for the 2023–2028 term.
Additionally, Professor Zyberi has been the President of the Albanian branch of the International Law Association since 2014. His exceptional contributions to international law were further highlighted by his recent nomination by Albania as a candidate for the UN Human Rights Committee, a committee he served on from 2019 to 2022.
In his distinguished career, Professor Zyberi has also served on defense teams in two cases at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in the period 2004-2012 and as part of a defense team at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in 2021. His extensive experience in international criminal law and human rights brought valuable context to his lecture, which focused on critical issues in the administration of international criminal justice.
The lecture was especially relevant for students currently finalizing their research papers in international criminal law, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with a leading scholar and practitioner in the field.
EPOKA University is honored to have welcomed Professor Zyberi back to campus, following his first visit in 2023, and looks forward to future collaborations. The lecture further cemented the university's commitment to providing students with exposure to cutting-edge legal scholarship and practice.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Professor Zyberi for his insightful presentation and his continued support of our academic community.
